Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment and Craniosacral Technique
Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) is a collection of therapeutic manual techniques that is used to treat structural and functional issues within the body. It is based on the principle Osteopathic tenets that the person is made up of Mind, Body, and Spirit, that the body is capable of regulating itself, desiring a state of health, and that structure and function of the body are intimately related. When there is disruption within this homeostatic relationship, somatic dysfunction results, contributing to disease and loss of well-being. OMT is comprised of several techniques that assist in restoring balance within the body. These include muscle energy, strain counterstrain, myofascial unwinding, and craniosacral technique. OMT is a safe accompaniment to other medical treatments and interventions. Its use is very effective in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain, headache and migraine, decreased joint range of motion, sciatica, repetitive stress and sports injuries, and many other conditions.
