First and foremost – what does constitutional mean? Similar to our genetic makeup, everyone has their own uniqueness due to inherited and acquired influences. The term “constitution” is commonly used to describe your current health status and susceptibility to illness. Your constitution’s characteristics also determine your skin complexion, physique, personality traits and Yin-Yang balance.
Constitutional facial acupuncture provides a healthy alternative to cosmetic surgery, fillers, and Botox injections!  Constitutional facial acupuncture is performed to improve some of the common skin concerns such as fine wrinkles, dynamic wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. Fine wrinkles are usually formed due to lack of moisture, accumulation of dead skin cells, and decrease in collagen and elastin fibers, while dynamic wrinkles are usually deeper and caused by the contraction of muscles that are attached to the overlying skin. Hyperpigmentation is caused by increased melanin concentration in basal keratinocytes and chronic inflammation in the epidermis layer of the skin.
Some of the treatment benefits of constitutional facial acupuncture include the minimization of fine and dynamic wrinkles, decreasing their length and depth, decreasing facial edema or swelling, decreasing acne, improving facial muscle tone, improving skin texture and tightening pores, and decreasing sagging around the eyes, cheeks, chin, and neck. It nurtures the health of the facial tissues, improving the quality of the skin and facial muscles so that the natural glow reflecting the inner Shen is brought forth. A typical treatment involves 12-20 weekly sessions lasting 60-90 minutes each. The initial course is then followed by a maintenance schedule of once monthly treatments.
